Making an Appointment

Many people with breast cancer find that, although they have looked forward to the time when active treatment is completed and "normal" life resumes, this can be a difficult period of transition. Physical, mental, and spiritual recovery can take many months, or even longer.

Once your treatment is completed, your doctor is likely to recommend that you see her or him regularly for checkups -- initially probably several times a year. Over time, the possibility that the cancer can recur diminishes, and you are likely to require less frequent checkups.

Alert your doctor if you notice any changes in your breast and chest area, or other unusual symptoms such as pain, loss of appetite or weight, changes in menstrual periods, or unusual vaginal bleeding.

Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center
