Uterine cancers originate in the uterus -- the small, hollow, pear-shaped organ located in a woman's pelvis. Endometrial cancer, which forms in the inner lining of the uterus, is the most common gynecologic cancer in the United States today. Uterine sarcomas, such as leiomyosarcoma, are much rarer and originate in the muscular layer of the uterine wall.
