Researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering have pioneed the use of computerized tools called nomograms, used by physicians for a better understanding cancer treatment options, risk estimates and survival odds.
Our pancreas nomogram is designed to assist physicians in predicting a patient's probability and length of survival. The nomogram uses a combination of factors, including margin of resection, location of lesion, and maximum path axis, to define and predict treatment outcome.
Though this nomogram does provide physicians with an indication of what a patient might expect, no nomogram can give absolute predictions. These result should be interpreted with the patient's physician and in conjunction with a complete medical history.
Who Should Use This Tool?
The pancreas nomogram is intended for use by physicians and other treatment specialists who are treating adult patients with resected adenocarcinoma of the pancreas.
What Information Is Needed?
Physicians should have access to information on the following patient variables:
- Age
- Sex
- Portal vein
- Splenectomy
- Margin of resection
- Location of lesion
- Degree of differentiation
- Posterior margin
- Number of positive nodes
- Number of negative nodes
- Back pain
- T-stage
- Weight loss
- Maximum path axis
How to Access the Nomogram
Our pancreas nomogram is available in the following formats: Palm Pilot OS4, Palm Pilot OS5, Palm Treo 600, and Pocket PC.
