In 2004, at the age of 69, Hans A. Schicht, a retired business owner, was the picture of perfect health, playing in a competitive tennis league and swimming four times a week. A diagnosis of prostate cancer threatened to change this picture dramatically.

Mike's Story

After a prolonged period of inconclusive tests, Michael DeBenedictis, a 65-year-old retired elementary school teacher, was finally diagnosed with the prostate cancer that he had suspected all along. This is his story of persistence and determination.

I started to develop symptoms in 1997 when I was 48 years old. At the time, I was traveling internationally as a project manager for PepsiCo and I thought that might explain some of my symptoms. Wanting to get to the bottom of it, I went to my primary care physician in New Jersey, who found nothing.
