Mark G. Kris is the incumbent of the newly endowed William and Joy Ruane Chair in Thoracic Oncology.
Dr. Kris is Chief of the Thoracic Oncology Service. He is a medical oncologist who specializes in the care of patients with lung cancer, thymoma, and neuroendocrine tumors arising in the lung. His research focuses on the development of biology-based treatments that specifically attack lung cancer, multimodality therapies, and drugs to control physical symptoms caused by cancer and its treatment. He is particularly interested in developing ways to select treatments for patients based on molecular characteristics of their tumor specimens. Dr. Kris earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. He was a fellow at Memorial Sloan-Kettering before joining the staff in 1983.
The chair he holds was made possible by a gift from the late William and Joy Ruane, longtime supporters of Memorial Sloan-Kettering and its programs of patient care and research in lung cancer.
