The SELECT (the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial) is the largest-ever prostate cancer prevention study involving 35,000 subjects at more than 400 sites. The goal of the trial was to confirm previous findings which suggested that selenium and vitamin E (alone or in combination) might reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer. But initial analysis of the data showed that supplementation with selenium and vitamin E over five years did not prevent prostate cancer. The results are expected to be published soon.
