A woman with GTD may feel as if she is pregnant; however, her abdomen will grow much more quickly than in a normal pregnancy. In addition to such abdominal swelling, other symptoms may include:

  • Nausea and vomiting that may be more frequent and severe than in a normal pregnancy

  • Nonmenstrual vaginal bleeding, and blood clots or a watery brown discharge that pass from the vagina

  • Dislodged pieces of the tumor that pass from the vagina, resembling a bunch of grapes

  • Fatigue and shortness of breath due to anemia, which may develop as a result of increased blood loss

  • Rapid heartbeat, warm skin, and mild tremor due to an overactive thyroid gland, which occurs in about seven percent of women with hydatidiform moles

  • Lack of fetal movement and fetal heart sounds
